When they got to Mesquite the ER nurses gave him breathing treatments and put him on oxygen. They thought maybe he had pneumonia or bronchitis. Estefan was never able to keep his oxygen levels up on his own even after four breathing treatments. So they decided to transfer him to Sunrise Children's hospital in Las Vegas.
We got to Sunrise at about 6:30PM and Estefan's oxygen levels were still way too low. So they gave him a continuous breathing treatment, with a mask and everything, for two hours. The doctors there thought it was RSV or asthma. His levels were better but he still couldn't keep them up on his own. They continued the oxygen and breathing treatments every two hours through the night.
Saturday morning he was much better. The doctors decided it was for sure asthma. Estefan's levels were up and the doctors let him walk around and play a little. After another breathing treatment they decided he was well enough to go home. They called a respiratory therapist and taught us how to give him an inhaler. We finally got home yesterday night.
It was a crazy scary weekend. Seeing Estefan like that broke my heart. But I'm so grateful for wonderful doctors and nurses and for our awesome family who kept Allie and Mark while we spent the last two days in the hospital. We really couldn't have done it without you guys!
