Spring Garden

I'm so excited, we've got our garden ready to plant!
We've been working the soil and preparing the seeds.

This is a double page layout I put together.
They are supposed to line up right next to each other, but I split it for preview sake.

Journalling reads:
Every Spring, we plant a garden and this year was no different. First we have to prepare the ground by tilling under last seasons crops. Then we level it and dig furrows. Once the ground is ready we plant the seeds and the starts. We love this time spent together, working in the soil. The kids love it too. They have hiding places in the palm trees and play tractors in the dirt. Even Johnny was big enough this year to crawl around and chew on rocks. We all work together to get the job done. Then when harvest time comes, we can enjoy the fruits and veggies of our labors. Its a good time to grow as a family, as we learn the importance of teamwork and hard work!

Garden Fresh

I loooove garden time. Makes me feel happy, fresh and revitalized.
Saturday, we spent the entire day outside cleaning up, tilling and getting ready to plant our Spring garden.

Thanks to our hardworking kiddos, our greenhouse is now full of vegetables and flowers. Hopefully we get some good starts!
Now lets keep up this nice weather Nevada!!

Tell Me Tuesday: Plethora of Projects

Remember in my last post, I said that it has been a busy few weeks. Well that might have been an understatement. Our garden is flourishing, as are our children. Oh yeah, and we got new carpet. Awesome right?! Right, except the moving all our stuff outside and living out of a suitcase for a couple days.. then moving and arranging everything back. But it was totally worth it!!

So for Tell Me Tuesday this week, I wanted to share with you the plethora of projects that have been keeping me busy.

1. Spaghetti Sauce
Photobucket
14 quart jars and 12 quart freezer bags (no picture) worth of yumminess
(recipe here)

2. Salsa
Photobucket
25 pints and 3 quarts -- Dustin did all this himself. He's the man!
(recipe here)

3. Zucchini, Zucchini, Zucchini
4. Lace Earring Holder
Photobucket
We have sooooo many zucchinis (off of just one plant, I might add).
I've made zucchini soup, zucchini bread, zucchini with hamburger and rice and zucchini cake. The zucchini cake was our treat for FHE last night. Add some strawberries and ice cream, the kids had no clue the cake was full of veggies. Tee, hee!

In between cooking up zucchini, I found time to make this little gem for my earrings. **love**

5. Solids
Photobucket
Luke started eating solid foods this week. Note the carrot stained cheeks.
That has been one of the more fun projects!

6. Matching Bedspread and Curtains
Photobucket
My mom and I made Allie a coordinating bedspread and curtain set. The bedspread is made from a flat sheet and the curtain from a fitted sheet. My mom is magic!

7. New Carpet
PhotobucketLast but not least, my new carpet!!!
I'm still working on putting my house back together but man oh man, I do NOT miss the pink stuff we ripped out. Its like a whole new house!

That's it for my project wrap up. Whew..

Spring Garden

Like in the past in past years we planted a garden this year.
Its a weeee bit smaller than some of our others but it will be sufficient for us and won't kill me in the harvest.. I'm not pregnant this year either, so that's nice.

These are Allie's flowers. She tended them, watered them and grew them all herself in our green house and then planted them in the front when they got big enough. They are so bright and cheery, just like Al. :)

Here is our little plot.

Mark is finally getting the potty training thing.
He wears his big boy underwear most of the day and especially when he's outside.
He has such a cute little tush.. tee hee.
Reminds me of the days when we were potty training Allie.

Pumpkin Time!

Last night after dinner we picked pumpkins!!
I've been so excited to go and get some pumpkins, melons and corn from Grandpa's garden I could hardly stand it. Then with all the rain we had Monday we had to wait til the mud dried up a bit.

Dustin and Allie huntin around!

Allie had to have a little one for her room and Dustin has this weird love for the green pumpkins.
I like mine orange... just sayin.

Mark wanted a huge pumpkin. And he wanted to carry it all by himself.
Dad said "Ready? Here you go."

I got it. I got it. I got it.

I don't got it!

So he picked a smaller one and loaded it up on the wheeler.

Allie found another one and the vine tickled her little nose!
A scarecrow.. nope just Dustin!

My perfect pumpkin!

We walked around the patch and picked and picked until it got dark and we were super muddy!

But Allie said, "Just one more!!"

Now we're all loaded up and ready for Halloween!!!

Garden Grass Gnomes and Trees

The garden is thriving in this wonderful weather!
Our tomatoes are doing better than they ever have.

We have a couple rogue squash

and corn stalks growing in random places.

After the onion fiasco of '08 and '09. We learned our lesson and only planted about 20 onion plants.
Those and the millions we have frozen will be plenty for summer canning.

Dustin got me 12 pines trees for Mother's Day. He finished planting them all around the yard yesterday.
They will be amazing relief from the summer sun.

And my grass is coming up the backyard!!! Yippee!

While we were working in the garden we found these little gnomes poking around.

They are pretty silly, but we love them.
