This year, I tried to teach the kids about why we celebrate Easter. To start I asked them why they thought we have Easter? Allie said, "Um.. I want Mariposa in my basket" and Estefan said, "Can I get lot of candy in mine?"
Yeah, we totally needed this lesson! I told them about the atonement, Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. They were amazingly receptive. It baffles me sometimes how smart kids are. Allie was pretty bummed that Jesus died but she was happy again when we told her he came back to life :)
After the lesson we watched, He is Risen from the Living Scripture collection and colored a page from The Friend of the Mary at the tomb. Underneath the coloring page there's a scripture from John:
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by
me" -John 14:6
While preparing for Family Home Evening this week I found a great blog called The Family Home Evening Spot. They have an Easter lesson with a countdown using "Resurrection Eggs." Inside each Easter egg is a little something to do with the resurrection and a scripture to be read with it! I was so bummed I didn't see this last month. But next year we'll be doing that countdown!!
I hope you all had a great Easter!
