Til we meet again...

Our dear Grandpa Bill passed away last night.
We miss him and love him, but we are grateful for the Plan of Salvation
and for Eternal Families and we know we'll see him again.

And we have lots of great memories and pictures to treasure until we meet again.

Splish Splash

Johnny's first bath!

Johnny's umbilical cord stump finally fell off yesterday evening! That of course meant it was time to have a real bath!!
When I first put Johnny in the water he wasn't sure what was going on. He just stared at me with a confused and worried look in his eyes.

Then the inevitable screaming started!

After a few minutes he relaxed a little.

Then it was time to get out and he was cold, so the screaming started again.

But the screaming was worth it. Because then I got to enjoy that post bath hair fluff and fresh soapy smell, while we read our bedtime stories!

Luke thinks he's the baby...

Luke and John

The most common question I've been getting since John was born, is
"How's Luke handling the new baby?"

To be honest, I think he's doing great! The first night home was a little shock to his system but over all he's loving the "bebay" as he calls Johnny.

Sure, we've had a rough moment here and there. Luke wants to sit in the baby carseat, I think he thinks its his own little recliner. Then there was the time he was helping clean up the toys before bed and cleaned himself right up into the toy basket!

We're just taking this baby thing one day at a time

Most days are full of smiles...

but some days we're not sure what is going on!

But one thing we do know is that mom loves both her babies!

That and she needs a bigger chair!

Johnny's BIRTH-day

Monday June 11th, I had my 39 week check up. I was dilated to 3cm and 50% effaced. Since I had been having lots of contractions on and off for the past week and a half, the doctor decided it would be best to induce me. She said Wednesday was good for her and that the office would be calling me later in the day to schedule a time for me to come in. I was so excited!

A few hours went by and I still hadn't received a call from the doctors office. So I called. The woman I spoke with said that my doctor hadn't put in the request yet and that they'd be in touch with me as soon as possible. Tuesday afternoon rolled around and I still hadn't heard from anyone. So I called again. The woman who does the scheduling with the hospital wasn't in and they said they would leave her a message and get back with me as soon as possible.

Tuesday night I still hadn't heard from anyone. I was so let down and confused. Why wasn't anyone calling me?? Was I going to have my baby tomorrow or was I going to be pregnant forever?! I tried to let it go and get some sleep. The office would either call or I'd have the baby on his time not mine. Wednesday morning, the day I was supposed to be induced, I decided if I wasn't going to have the baby I was going to stay busy. I got up and cleaned the house and got the kids ready to go to the library and get groceries.

Around 9AM I got a call from the hospital from a nurse named Haze, asking me where I was and if I wanted to have a baby today. I said that I did but that my doctor's office hadn't called me yet. Haze said that she had me scheduled to come in at 8AM that morning and they'd been waiting for me. In my mind I screamed "WHY DID'T ANYONE CALL ME?!", but I said thank you and told her we'll be there as soon as we could. Dustin had gone to work since we didn't think that I'd be induced that day, so he had to drive home from Vegas and get me and our bags and drive back! It was such a crazy morning! But we made it safely to the hospital around 11:30 and by noon I was getting pumped full of pitocin and ready to go!

The nurse that called me that morning, Haze, was my labor and delivery nurse, along with another nurse, Erin that she was training. Thinking about it now I laugh that my nurse's name was Haze, because labor was such a whirlwind. Everything happened so fast, that its all kind of a haze now!

After the pitocin kicked in and I was starting to have some mild contractions, Haze broke my water. I went from being dilated to 3.5cm to 7cm in a matter of minutes. The contractions were getting really painful so the anesthesiologist came and gave me an epidural. The epidural had barely started working when my contractions got so painful and close together, that they turned the pitocin off and gave me oxygen. The oxygen mask was horrible. It made me feel sick. But pretty soon I was dilated to a ten and ready to push. Or so they told me. The epidural was working its magic and I couldn't feel anything! When the nurse said she was going to call my doctor, I was confused. I couldn't believe it was time to push already! After a couple pushes and barely breaking a sweat, John Dudley Nelson was born at 4:42PM.

Johnny weighed in at 9 pounds and 1 ounce and was 20 inches long.
Big and healthy, just like we like em!

Then Johnny started grunting. Luke did the same thing so I wasn't too worried about him. The nurse said it was from being born so quickly that he sort of got the breath knocked out of him. Either way they wanted to monitor him to be sure it wasn't anything serious.

So after a quick kiss and some snuggling, the nurses took my little man to the nursery to get cleaned and checked.

I was smitten with him from the start and reluctantly let him go!

After about four hours, but what seemed like forever, they finally brought our little man to us in the recovery room. Dustin sported his Chris LeDoux shirt for yet another delivery!Link

Johnny cried most of the first night at the hospital. He just wanted to be fed and held. But after being apart for four hours immediately following his birth, I was glad to hold him all night.

My doctor and Johnny's pediatrician came to check on us early Thursday morning. We both got the okay to go home! So after less than 24 hours in the hospital, Dustin and I left with the most beautiful and perfect baby.

We feel so blessed and are so grateful to be parents to our FIVE wonderful children!

Eeeek, we have five kids! ;)

Then today was the last day of school. I thought it was only appropriate to document the last day as well as the first!

Oh how my little girl has grown up!

Allie said that her teacher cried and was going to miss her, so she gave her extra hugs! Allie cried a little too and said she was going to miss Kindergarten but that she was excited to be able to have art and lunch in first grade.

We made it through the year!!

38 weeks | Baby Shower

I'm officially full term! I hit 38 weeks and at my last doctor appointment I was 2.5cm dilated. Baby weighs about 6.8 pounds and he's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek).

Little man could come any time or he could kick it for another couple weeks.

I'm so ready to not be pregnant any more, but the thought of pushing a little human out of my body again has me hyperventilating a little.. er a lot. I'm trying not to think about it too much, but Luke's birth wasn't that long ago and is still very vivid in my mind.

My mom put together a diaper shower for my sister, Ashley and me last weekend. It was lots of fun! Ashley and I are ten weeks apart in our pregnancies again! Too funny, like we could've planned it any better!

Two more weeks!!
I think I can, I think I can...
